Marshall Taplits began his career in software quality assurance in 2000. He first became involved in the mobile phone pre- and post-paid billing industry in 2005 while working at Comverse, where he learned the ins and outs of VOIP technologies, such as VOIP termination, least-cost routing engines, interactive voice response, rating and billing, SMS, roaming, and backup and disaster/ recovery. The systems he worked with – particularly for VimpelCom (Russia) and Alltel (USA) – are designed to scale to hundreds of millions of users. In 2006, Marshall worked for TradeStone Software as an implementation consultant and later as an implementation manager, leading product lifecycle management implementations for global retailers. In 2011, Marshall founded SpaxTel, whose mission is to enable users to make high-quality international calls from any phone in the world, with or without Internet access. The company offers a prepaid international calling app available on Android, iPhone, Blackberry, and Windows phone.
